JENSEN

Project Year: 2014

The owner was very specific in his requests for a modern design to compliment the inner city living requirements of today’s resident.  With a block size of 319m2, we made use of the small lot to create a double storey open living home with low maintenance yard.  This light filled design takes advantage of the northern views across the city from every possible angle.   The modern interior is highlighted with quality fixtures and materials to create a luxe atmosphere in each room.

WOLLASTON BANKS

Project Year: 2014

Merri Banks on Wollaston was a challenging site to work with. Although the site is approximately 200 meters in length its width varies between approximately 11.0 – 18.0 meters in width. Fronting onto the Merri River the building was also restricted by flood levels as well has having 8.5 mtrs site fall from west to east for the length of the building area. The residence is approx. 57 metres in length and was designed to abut directly onto the boundary between the neighbours to the south. The house has been designed with four 1 metre steps through its length with each step providing separation between functioning areas of the dwelling while descending down the allotment to its final level of the kitchen and main living areas overlooking the Merri river and surrounding countryside. Because of the length of the building a lot of consideration had to be given to its neighbours to the south, which is the, historically listed former “Wollaston Homestead” built in 1856. By keeping the house single story and stepping the design as described above, existing view lines have been respected. The concrete tilt panel and retaining wall on the south boundary is unique for residential construction, a concrete slab floor provides a solid thermal mass, every bedroom and living room receives natural northern sunlight with comfort plus glazing to windows, this is a very comfortable home to live in.

SKYLAND

Project Year: 2012

Located on Hopkins Point Road “Skyland” is a modern contemporary design built into the hillside of the former Coastal farmland located on the eastern fringe of Warrnambool. The design has taken full advantage of the vistas available with views over the dunes east and west along the coast, sweeping around to the north over the country side toward Mt Warrnambool. This has been achieved through well balanced used of glazing sections that maximise the solar benefits of the sun. The site residence has made use of the fall of the land to provide subfloor storage for farm vehicles, as the owners graze Hereford stud cattle, as well as provide approximately 91,000 litres of water storage. The house has been designed in an L shape to protect the front entry and yard from the prevailing elements. The east wing consists of 3 levels, and the southern wing 2 that are divided by a shared outdoor deck on the south east corner. A glass fronted lift provides access to all levels. This is truly a unique residence to the southwest of Victoria and Victoria with no other like it in the area.
